Ahhh the dreaded words have been said 'avoid dairy', favorite food of the 20th century!

What would we do without cereal, cream soups, ice cream and cheesy pizza? The answer is: Be healthy!

There are other ways to get calcium other than dairy, for example broccoli has 3x the calcium dairy products have. In fact dairy leaches calcium from bones rather than make them stronger.- i know, shocker! give me a chance to explain.

When the cow is milked, the product is packed with live vitamins, minerals and calcium. The milk is then heat treated to kill bacteria but by pasteurizing it, the vitamins and other nutrients are killed in the process. What is left is a dead white liquid which is then fortified with an outside source of calcium. Now that the milk has been heat treated, when digested in the body it is no longer an alkaline drink but extremely acidic. Because of the high acidity of the milk, the body needs to leach calcium from our bones to help buffer the acid for digestion. If the milk comes from an unhealthy source this means you are eating an unhealthy product.

If you are interested in buying raw dairy products, you can find raw organic cheese at your local grocer.

You can get great recipes online to make your own almond or rice milk.
